Day 05: The Green Mountain - Nizwa (B, L, D)
Get in your 4WD and drive towards the
nearby town of Ibra. The old town, with
its retro atmosphere is worth visiting. The drive now takes you
to Jebel Akhdar, literally the ‘Green
Mountain’
and the home of Omani rosewater. It is considered as one of the
most fertile places inland with different species of fruits and
flowers blooming. From Saiq plateau, enjoy the perfect view of
the terraces. Your guide will show you the Diana’s point, named
after the Princess of Wales whose helicopter landed at that
spot. As per time permits, walk around the mountain village.
Just at the foot of the mountain is the Birkat Al Mauz, which is
a magical place during Sunset. Stroll through the deserted ruins
of the village, surrounded by dates and Falaj, the ancient
irrigation system that is now a UNESCO heritage site. Continue
to Nizwa for the overnight stay.
